ATTICA. Athens. Circa 165-42 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 28 mm, 15.87 g, 12 h), New Style coinage, struck under the magistrates Epigene..., Sosandros, and Metrodi.., 125/4. Helmeted head of Athena Parthenos right, wearing triple-crested helemt the bowl of which is ornamented with Pegasos flying right. Rev. Α-Θ[Ε] /ΜΗ/ΤΡΟ/ΔΙ -ΕΠ[Ι]/ΓΕΝ /ΣΩΣ[ΑΝ]/ΔΡΟ[Σ] Owl standing right, head facing, on overturned amphora; magistrates' names in fields; to left, eagle standing right on thunderbolt; H on amphora, ΠΡΩ in exergue; all within laurel wreath. HGC 4, 1602. Thompson 452b (same reverse die). Good centering and light toning. Lamination flaw and cleaning scratches on obverse, obverse field before face lightly smoothed, otherwise, very fine.
