ELIS. Olympia. Circa 450-440 BC. Stater (Silver, 25 mm, 11.97 g). Eagle flying right with wings above and below his body, grasping hare by the belly and tearing at him with his beak. Rev. Ϝ - Α Nike striding to left, holding wreath in her outstretched right hand and the hem of her chiton in her left. BCD Olympia -. Seltman, Temple -, ( but AK/απ, a die combination unlisted in Seltman and in SNG Delepierre). Very rare, attractively toned and well-centered. Struck from the usual worn dies, with some slightly rough areas and with two countermarks on the obverse, both in circular indents, one with a star (?) within a wreath and the other with a scorpion (?) , otherwise, about very fine.
