Attis was the eunuch consort of Cybele, the Great Mother Goddess. In response to a Sybelline oracle declaring that Rome would conquer Carthage only after the arrival of her cult in the city, in c. 204 BC the Romans brought her image to the Rome from Pessinus in Phrygia. Three years later Scipio defeated Hannibal at Zama, thus ending the the nearly two decade long conflict.
