Trajan, 98-117. Denarius (Silver, 18 mm, 3.38 g, 6 h), Rome, 116-117. IMP CAES NER TRAIAN OPTIM AVG GERM DAC Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Trajan to right. Rev. PARTHICO P M [TR P] COS VI P P S P Q R / PRO-VID Providentia standing left, pointing with right hand toward globe at feet to left and holding long sceptre in left hand. BMC -. Cohen -. RIC -. RSC 314(a). Woytek 580v. Lightly toned with a strong, nicely centered portrait. Nearly extremely fine.
This type lacking the column behind Providentia is apparently quite rare. It was unknown to Cohen and to the authors of both RIC and BMC. H. A. Seaby noted an example seen in Seaby stock, which he numbered as 314 in his handbook, but had already used that number for a different bust variety.
