AUSTRIA. Gold 1/4 Taler of 6 Ducat Weight, ND (1669). Hall Mint. Leopold I. NGC MS-61.
cf. KM-1173.1 (for regular issue in silver); cf. Her-862 (same); cf. M&T-715 (same). Off-metal striking. Obverse: LEOPOLDVS D G R I S A G H B REX, laureate, draped, and armored bust right; Reverse: ARCHIDV AVST DVX BV CO TYR, crowned coat-of-arms within Collar of the Order of the Golden Fleece. A seemingly UNIQUE specimen, this captivating piece features the dies of the 1/4 taler denomination yet a planchet in gold at the weight of 6 ducats. Undoubtedly, this represents a singular opportunity to acquire an oddity in a wholesome, problem-free state of preservation. For completeness, a few deposits in and around the shield on the reverse are noted, but the lustrous surfaces otherwise glisten with robust brilliance. Worthy of intense focus and heightened consideration on account of its nature.

Ex: Peus 379 (4/2004) Lot # 3678 @ 25,500 Euros.

Estimate: $45000.00- $70000.00
