GREAT BRITAIN. Crown, 1746. London Mint. George II. PCGS EF-40 Gold Shield.
S-3689; KM-585.3; Dav-1350. "LIMA" type. A wholesome representative of this ever popular and heavily collected type exhibiting moderate even wear displaying attractive soft gray tone in the open areas and atop of the devices complemented by lovely rich mottled patina in the peripheries and crevasses offering much originality.

Admiral Lord George Anson, during his circumnavigation of the globe from 1740-1744, was alleged to have seized silver from the Spanish while in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Peru. As a result, the mint in London placed the word "LIMA" below the king's bust on some issues from 1745 and 1746 in order to commemorate this event as well to boast about the victory over rival Spain.

Estimate: $700.00- $1000.00
