PHILIPPINES. Mint Opening Silver Medallic Proclamation 2 Reales, 1861. Isabella II. NGC MS-62.
Basso-96; Honeycutt-16. Tied for finest certified of the type on the NGC population report. Struck to commemorate the opening of the Manila mint March 19, 1861. The Royal decree of September 8, 1857 was specific to the authorization of gold coinage. Obverse: Bust of Isabella II left, legend around; Reverse: Arms of Manila in wreath, legend around, date below. A highly attractive representative of the type exhibiting a sharp strike with good definition of the fine details displaying beautiful mottled iridescent tone that pops out when tilted in the light. This lovely original looking survivor is much nicer than normally encountered and as such should be considered VERY RARE in this state of preservation and highly coveted sure to see spirited bidding from collectors.

As a point of reference, we sold a slightly lower grade example from the Ray Czahor collection in our January NYINC 2019 auction Lot # 43822 graded PCGS AU-55 for an impressive $1,700 (plus buyer premium).

Estimate: $1200.00- $1600.00
