BOLIVIA. 8 Escudos, 1823-PTS PJ. Potosi Mint. Ferdinand VII. NGC MS-61.
KM-91; Onza-1307 ("rara"). Three-year type. Far better than most survivors of this elusive type, with gleaming, semi-reflective qualities in the obverse fields and legends that are complimented by attractive, highly original tone. On the reverse, the luster is more frosty in appearance and the tone is more expansive. While often poorly struck as a type, this piece is well-defined, with the shield in the reverse centers, which often lacks significant detail, being nearly complete. Tied with two others for the highest certified, with this piece seemingly holding a slight edge over the other MS-61 seen due to a deep adjustment mark that runs through Ferdinand VII's bust on that coin. Accordingly, this coin brought slightly more than that piece ($6,500 versus $5,750 hammer) when it last appeared on the market in 2015. As such, an absolute candidate for finest known!

From the Oro del Nuevo Mundo Collection.

Estimate: $5000.00- $7000.00
