COLOMBIA. 8 Escudos, 1827-BOGOTA JF. Bogota Mint. NGC MS-61.
KM-82.1; Onza-1708; Restrepo-165.11. Immediately captivating, this boldly struck early republican issue exhibits significant reddish-hued patina in the open fields with greenish-gold highlights that surround many of the raised designs. The surfaces also appear nicer than one might expect for the grade, with very few instances of hard contact appearing over either side. As a type, RARE when found with the combination of a full strike, no major planchet defects and great eye-appeal, all of which are attributes possessed by this coin. Accordingly, tied with one other for the finest graded, ensuring that it will be avidly contested until the hammer falls!
