PERU. 8 Escudos, 1770-LM JM. Lima Mint. Charles III. NGC AU-53.
KM-73; Onza-688 ("muy rara"). A short-lived and VERY RARE type that pairs the drapery and armor cuirass style that was used on the earlier "rat-nosed" type, with a head that is more representative of Charles III's later coinage. An extremely impressive example thereof, this survivor showcases a bold strike with the addition of warm orange-gold toning highlights around the raised surfaces on both sides that convey originality. Most impressive, however, and the attribute that differentiates this coin from most others, is that it is entirely free from adjustments marks, which appear to have severely plagued the issue. As no Mint State examples have been certified, this example certainly belongs in the conversation for the most desirable that exists.

From the Oro del Nuevo Mundo Collection.

Estimate: $4000.00- $6000.00
