PERU. 8 Escudos, 1863-LIMA YB. Lima Mint. NGC MS-63+.
KM-183; Onza-2104. Two-year type. A transitional type that was struck as the country was beginning its currency conversion to the decimal system in which Escudo issues would become denominated in Soles. A premium coin, this example displays extremely thick frost in the fields and shockingly mark-free surfaces. On the date side, several planchet adjustments remain near the edges and likely prevented the near-Gem (MS-64) designation. Even so, the single finest graded of this non-overdate variety at NGC, making it an obvious target for the elite-seeking type collector.
