ECUADOR. Sucre, 1997. NGC PROOF-68 Ultra Cameo.
KM-111; Fr-12. Mintage: 2,000. AGW: .8999 oz. Struck for the 70th Anniversary of the establishment of the Central Bank. A charming modern issue, designed with the country's numismatic history in mind, and featuring a recreation of an 1833-dated sunface-designed Ecuadorian Escudo as part of the focal design. On the other side appears the edifice of the former mint. Both sides display a strong cameo appearance and no observable flaws.

Located in old town Quito, the former Central Bank building now serves as the country's money museum. While its collection of vintage coins is undoubtedly impressive, perhaps its most breathtaking exhibit is a massive deposit of coins that illustrates the effects of hyperinflation that lead to the Ecuador's adoption of the U.S. Dollar as its official currency in the year 2000.

From the Matthew Orsini Collection.

Estimate: $1000.00- $1500.00
