MEXICO. Mexico - Spain. Bazar Sevillano Silvered-Bronze Advertising Medal, ND (ca. 1880). PCGS MS-67 Gold Shield.
CEMI-248. Obverse: Replication of a 1771 Mexican Pillar Dollar; Reverse: BAZAR SEVILLANO / DE / RAMOS HERMANOS / CASA FUNDADA 1876 / ESPECIALIDAD en BRONCES / PORCELANAS y OBJETOS / de FANTASIA y ARTE / SEVILLA. A nearly pristine example of this VERY RARE advertising token, of which we have found only one other (the CEMI plate piece, which is in VG condition). The surfaces, which remain virtually free from past handling, showcase stunning brilliance with a few instances of light tone here and there. Although Spanish in origin, the faithful recreation of the famous Pillar Dollar design should appeal to those collectors that focus on the Americas.

Founded by D. Manuel Ramos Rejano and his brothers in 1876, the Bazar Sevillano was first a shop that specialized in toys and jewelry, but later expanded into ceramics, the area for which it is best remembered.

From the Matthew Orsini Collection.

Estimate: $300.00- $600.00
