MEXICO. 8 Escudos, 1778-Mo FF. Mexico City Mint. Charles III. NGC MS-61.
Fr-33; KM-156.2. Tied for finest certified of the date with one other example on either the NGC or PCGS population reports, none finer. This bright and lustrous example exhibits a strong strike with frosty devices and much brilliance in the peripheries. Light signs of handling consistent for the grade retaining much flash in the protected areas that pops out when rotated in hand catching the attention of nearby viewers. This is a type that is readily available in circulated condition, but is quite difficult to locate in grades above AU and certainly worthy of a premium bid from serious date and type collectors.
We note that the other recorded Mint State example of this date sold in the Daniel F. Sedwick 2017 auction Lot # 153 for an $10,000 hammer (plus buyers fee).
Estimate: $3000.00- $4000.00
