Grove-D-40a. Obverse: Eagle, with head right, wings spread, and serpent in beak and talons, standing left atop cactus; radiant Phrygian cap above; Reverse: Legend in four lines; above, open book with laurel branch and palm frond; below, crossed whip and torch. An incredibly brilliant and argent specimen, this clasped, oval medal does exhibit some scattered hairlines, but nevertheless remains highly choice and stands at the top of the NGC census.
