PHILIPPINES. Philippines - Peru. 8 Reales, ND (1832-34). Ferdinand VII. PCGS Genuine--Damaged, VF Details Gold Shield; Countermark: XF Details.
KM-80; Basso-41; Gil Crown variety-5-4-1-C. Type V Countermark, crowned F.7.0 within circle. Issued by decree of 2 October 1832, commencing 5 October 1832 until 20 December 1834. Countermark applied to the reverse of an 1822-LIMA JP Peru "Libre" 8 Reales, long tassels above date variety. A fairly SCARCE variant with the countermark being applied to the reverse instead of the obverse as according to the above stated decree. The countermark is slightly unevenly applied, but with all of the pertinent design elements bold and clear. Evidence of being cleaned long ago now slightly subdued displaying an attractive mottled dove gray to slate gray patina. Though PCGS has given the designation of "Damage", this cataloger is struggling to locate said damage. Aside from several areas of natural planchet roughness and defects, a thin unobtrusive pin scratch now toned over matching the rest of the coin can be noticed in the right field of the obverse only becoming apparent when rotating in the right light. Despite its shortcomings a handsome moderately worn example of this popular type with a decent look sure to be a welcome addition to the next collection it enters.

Estimate: $900.00- $1200.00
