PHILIPPINES. Philippines - Chile. 8 Reales, ND (1834-37). Isabel II. NGC VF-35; Countermark: XF Weak.
KM-108; Basso-43; Gil Crown vairety-5-4-1-II. Type VI Countermark, crowned Y.II. with circle. Issued by decree of 20 December 1834, suppressed 31 March 1837, by decree of 1 February 1836. Countermark applied to the obverse of an 1834-SANTIAGO IJ Chile Peso. A popular host type from this series. The countermark is a bit off center and slightly uneven displaying minor weakness of the Queen's ordinal as is commonly encountered on these issues. This wholesome looking and problem free survivor displays lovely rich envelope patina displaying a complementary mottled gray tone ranging from dove gray to slate with a light iridescent sheen adding to its pleasing appearance. Clearly an example which sat for a prolonged period of time undisturbed in the right conditions to produce this attractive piece sure to be a welcome addition to the next collection it enters.

Estimate: $700.00- $1000.00
