PHILIPPINES. Philippines - Mexico. 8 Reales, ND (1834-37). Isabel II. PCGS EF-45 Gold Shield; Countermark: XF Details.
KM-A130; Basso-43; Gil Crown variety 5-4-3-III. Type VI Countermark, crowned Y.II. within circle applied to the obverse of an 1834-Pi JS Mexico Republic 8 Reales. Issued by decree of 20 December 1834, suppressed 31 March 1837, by decree of 1 February 1836. A rather sneaky host mint/date from the "Cap & Rays" series found with a Philippines countermark and should be considered SCARCE and desirable. The countermark is somewhat unevenly applied, but with good definition of the crowns features and full cipher with a die crack in the queen's cipher giving the appearance of an "H" offering an interesting diagnostic for this punch. A wholesome survivor with signs of handling consistent for the grade displaying lovely rich mottled parchment and gray patina adding to is pleasing appearance and overall eye appeal sure to be a welcome addition to the next collection it enters.

Estimate: $700.00- $1000.00
