CANADA. Bank of Ottowa. 5 Dollars, 1913. CH #565-26-02. PMG Very Fine 20.
Ottawa, Dominion of Canada. Printed signature of President G. Bryson. Vignette at center of a logging camp scene, flanked at left and right by two ornate "5" counters. Bank name at top center with Dominion name above. A light ochre undertint is noticed, making up the rayed and "FIVE" underprints. The reverse displays the Crest of Ottawa at center, with "5" counters in the left and right ends of the design. The reverse design is printed in a dark brown ink, and displays intricate lathe work. Good detail and eye appeal of the design & inks for the assigned grade.

The Bank of Ottawa was founded in 1874 by pioneers in the Ottawa Valley lumber industry, and the bank enjoyed prosperity up through World War I, at which point expansion was needed to maintain the banks earnings. An offer was made to merge with the Bank of Nova Scotia, and the merger was finalized in 1919. Notes from this bank are quite scarce, and although the 1913 series is more available to collectors than other series notes from this bank, PMG's pop report lists just 13 notes graded of this Charlton number.

Estimate: $5000.00- $7000.00
