TRAJAN, A.D. 98-117. Syria, Seleucis and Pieria, Antioch. AR Tetradrachm (14.37 gms), dated RY 15 and Cos. 5 (A.D. 110/1). NEARLY EXTREMELY FINE.
RPC-III, 3539; McAlee-460; Prieur-1515 (Tyre). Obverse: Laureate head of Trajan right, set upon eagle standing right; club to left; Reverse: Laureate bust of Melkart-Hercules right, with lion skin tied around neck. Quite vibrant and appealing, this specimen features a particularly strong rendition of the local deity on the reverse. For completeness, some very light roughness in the obverse field is noted.
