KM-Pn48; Maz-1266D. Engraved by F. Barre. Obverse: Radiate head of Liberty facing left; Reverse: Denomination and date within beaded circle, wreath and wheat around. This attractive and highly lustrous survivor boasts flashy fields and frosty devices with lovely delicate patination offering a pleasing appearance with much originality. During this time period the Paris mint experimented quite heavily with numerous patterns in a variety of metals and denominations. In fact the Paris mint was prolific in their output of the special issues, now very collectable, that many different variations of the motifs exist with some, such as the present piece, much more interesting in terms of design features.
