FRANCE. "Le Petit Parisien" Cast Silver Award Medal, ND (ca. 1930). GEM UNCIRCULATED.
50.2mm; 57.18 gms. By E. Exbrayat. Unawarded. Obverse: Personification of Journalism standing slightly left, holding up torch, casting light upon news from around the country; in background to right, telegraph lines transmitting the news even further, with wires emanating from the newspaper itself; Reverse: OFFERT PAR LE PETIT PARISIEN, Mercury advancing right, cradling caduceus and leading with torch; outline of Europe in the background. Edge: ARGENT [two hallmarks]. Featuring slightly matte surfaces from the casting and having developed an alluring tone--especially near the peripheries--this example certainly engages the eye. Includes original case of issue. A RARE type in silver, this Art Nouveau-inspired design was offered by Le Petit Parisien, one of the leading newspapers in France from 1876 to 1944.

From the Provence Collection of French Art Medals.

Estimate: $100.00- $200.00
