Diameter: 38.5mm. Issued to honor the conquest of East Africa by Major Hermann von Wissman (1853-1905) in 1889-90. Obverse: bust left in pith helmet; reverse: the genius of Germany flies over the African shore. An attractive Medal with iridescent toning over prooflike surfaces.
We note many appearances of this medal in bronze and silver in Europe but we believe that this is the first offering in the United States.
