Wittelsbach-2914. Diameter: 41.1 mm. Issued to honor the silver wedding anniversary of Prince Ludwig and his wife Maria Theresa. Obverse: conjoined busts of the happy pair face left; reverse: a tree bearing the names of their children. Dies by A. Boersch. Handsome toning with a few scattered hairlines on the reverse.

Prince Ludwig (1845-1921) was the son of prince regent Luitpold. He became king of Bavaria in 1913 on the death of his cousin Otto. While we see numerous appearances of this medal in Europe, we believe this is the first offering in an American auction.
