GREAT BRITAIN. Most Noble Order of the Garter, Instituted 1348. VERY FINE.
Non-standard type. Not listed in MYB or Barac. Interesting 130 mm gilt-brass and enamel Breast Star with each of its 24 rays formed from 6 rhinestones. The central brass medallion inscribed HONNY SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE - with an interesting misspelling of the first word, usually spelled HONI - in the usual blue, white and red colors. The reverse unmarked, with a gilt brass tab soldered on for wear. Probably not an official issue of any sort, but possibly an emergency replacement copy or more likely a costume piece or movie prop. Improperly housed in a large, compartmented, Polonia Restituta Order box.
Estimate: $70.00- $150.00
