Israel Bank Leumi Le-Israel B.M. 50 Pounds ND (1952) Pick 23a PMG Choice Very Fine 35. As the highest denomination of the series, 50 Pound notes from the Bank Leumi Le-Israel are rarely seen today. Issuance was limited, for two reasons. First, this denomination had considerable purchasing power, and second, the Bank of Israel began issuing banknotes nationwide in 1955. Interestingly, banknotes from this series were not officially withdrawn until 1981, but the overwhelming majority had been exchanged long before then. Only mild circulation is seen on this pleasing example.
