Lebanon Banque de Syrie et du Liban 50 Livres 1.9.1939 Pick UNL Chevron Overprint Type C PMG Very Fine 30. Bradbury, Wilkinson & Company issues for Lebanon and Syria dating 1939 were overprinted prior to issue to identify shipment of banknotes during World War II. The "Chevron" overprint variety was thought to have been stolen during transit and never introduced, but somehow, a small number of notes must have entered circulation. Bright colors and unusually good paper exists on this curious type. Assuredly rare, as the 50 Livres was the highest denomination of the series.
