Spain Banco de Espana 100 Pesetas 1.7.1876 Pick 11 PMG Choice Very Fine 35. The 1876 American Banknote Series was created to help the Bank of Spain meet the currency requirements for the country. Although dated 1876, they were not issued until 1883 at the earliest. One million notes were printed, across all denominations, broken down as follows: 750,000 100 Pesetas, 150,000 500 Pesetas, and 100,000 1000 Pesetas. All extant examples are very rare today, as this series of notes was withdrawn in 1901. Lope de Vega is portrayed on the front of this note. Several pretty vignettes grace both sides of this initial denomination. At the time of cataloging, this is the highest graded example in the PMG Population Report, of only four examples. While there are two notes at this specific grade point, the other has "Net" designation, which elevates this example, since it is clean and problem-free. Missing from many collections, and worthy of consideration, this 19th century type is seldom offered in any grade, and only a scant few are known to exist. https://currency.ha.com/itm/world-currency/spain-banco-de-espana-100-pesetas-171876-pick-11-pmg-choice-very-fine-35/p/4028-31007.s?type=CoinArchivesCurrency4028 HID08706262019 © 2020 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
