Attica, Athens AR New Style Tetradrachm. Ariston, Philon, and Hegias, magistrates. Circa 97/6 BC. Head of Athena Parthenos to right, wearing necklace, pendant earring, and triple-crested Attic helmet decorated with the protomes of four horses above the visor, a Pegasos in flight rightward above the raised earpiece, and a curvilinear ornament on the bowl / Owl standing to right, head facing, on amphora inscribed with I; A-ӨE above ΑΡΙ-ΣΤΩΝ, ΦΙΛΩΝ and ΗΓΕΑΣ (magistrate's names) across fields, Pegasos grazing to left in lower right field, ΠE in exergue; all within laurel wreath. Thompson 981b. 16.16g, 30mm, 12h.

Very Fine; slightly porous, lightly toned.
