Elagabalus Æ Sestertius. Rome, AD 218-222. IMP CAES M AVR ANTONINVS PIVS AVG, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right / LIBERALITAS AVGVSTI II or AVGVST III, Liberalitas standing facing, head left, holding abacus and cornucopia; S - C across fields. RIC IV 353 or 354A; BMCRE 351 or 352 note. 24.74g, 31mm, 11h.

Good Very Fine. Very Rare.

From the collection of Z.P., Austria.

The two possible references for this coin are based on the reverse legend, AVGVSTI II or AVGVST III, the extreme similarity in these two types is normally differentiated by a pellet between the final word and the numeral. However this example does not provide us with this definitive proof and the limited examples of both coins does not allow for a full analysis of the dies of each type, leaving us with two references for this coin. Both references are very rare and rarely seen at auction.
