CARIA. Mylasa (?) Ca. 500-450 BC. AR stater (19mm, 10.53 gm). NGC MS★ 5/5 - 3/5. Uncertain mint, ca. 520-490 BC. Forepart of roaring lion right with outstretched foreleg; symbol behind shoulder, dotted truncation / Archaic incuse square divided by band. SNG Kayhan 930 var. (no symbol). SNG von Aulock 2337 var. (lion left). A stunningly magnificent example of leonine Carian coinage. Beautifully struck and centered on oblong flan, with granite-like color and surfaces, lending to the overall sculptural appearance.
