Aelia Verina, Eastern Roman Empire (AD 457-484). AV solidus (21mm, 4.48 gm, 5h). NGC Choice XF 5/5 - 3/5, wavy flan, edge marks. Constantinople, AD 462-466. AEL VERI-NA AVG, pearl-diademed, draped bust of Aelia Verina right, seen from front, wearing necklace and earring, hair elaborately weaved with long plait up the back of head and tucked under diadem, crowned with wreath by hand of God reaching down from above / VICTORI-A AVGGG, Victory standing facing, head left, long jeweled cross with diagonal crossbar in right hand, folds of stola in left; star in right field, CONOB in exergue. RIC X 607. Depeyrot 93/2. Nicely struck and overall a pleasing example of this empress, who is difficult to find in gold.
