Egypt
Fuad I Proof 20 Piastres AH 1352 (1933) PR63 NGC, British Royal mint, KM352. One of the great rarities of modern Egypt, Proofs of Record such as this piece appear to have been produced in special 3-coin sets of the 5, 10, and 20 Piastres and likely were intended for display in museums or amongst the Royal Mint's own holdings. Interestingly, despite its vast holdings of extremely rare and unique Egyptian coins and patterns, Sotheby's 1954 sale of the King Farouk Collection appears to have lacked a specimen of this Proof, of which only three have been certified by NGC. Nearly untoned aside from some mottling of burgundy on the reverse--likely coming from storage in a presentation case--the coin at hand is virtually free of major marks, close inspection, even under high magnification, suggesting that a finer technical grade may indeed be wanting.
