George II gold "East India Company" 5 Guineas 1729 MS62 NGC, KM571.2, S-3664, Schneider-556. Of unquestionable beauty for the type, one closely connected with the history of the British East India Company, an organization which eventually rose to account for half of the entire world's trade, bolstering the financial and territorial roots of the British Empire and serving an integral part in the events leading up to the American Revolution. What is perhaps most exceptional about the offering is its sheer visual impact in light of its assigned grade. While one can normally expect a fair number of moderate marks and distractions at this level of certification, this offering exhibits essentially nothing of the sort. The surfaces, admitting only very faint hairline wisps, retain the appeal of a more highly certified example, igniting in lustrous brilliance upon rotation under light, without any meaningful distractions existing at all to deter the eye as it traverses the splendid aurous fields. Coupled with this clarity is a sound strike, leaving George's features admirably contoured and portrayed with exact precision to even the highest points, perhaps only a trivial hint of softness visible within the innermost part of the reverse shield, though nowhere else. Superior for the type, and dripping with golden resplendence, it is no exaggeration to say that this laudable 5 Guineas would find itself in good company within a collection of even much more highly certified British gold rarities.
