Victoria Proof "Gothic" Crown 1847 PR62 Deep Cameo PCGS, KM744, S-3883, ESC-2578 (R2). Plain edge. N over inverted N in UNITA variety. Struck in pure silver (verified by XRF analysis). Only the third example of this fairly scarce variety we have handled, and one that clearly stands a step above the rest by virtue of its Deep Cameo grade--an exceedingly rare designation for the type. Frequently struck with an even mirrored finish, Victoria's Gothic crowns seldom appear with even mild device frosting, a fact verified by the existence of a mere 7 Deep Cameo-certified examples of this date out of 516 currently seen by PCGS. Indeed the night-and-day contrasts between the fields and features on this particular specimen are instantly notable. Additionally graced by a mild mottling of russet color in the obverse surfaces, it nearly goes without saying that the coin at hand presents a special opportunity for the collector of Victoria's coinage.
