MACEDONIAN KINGDOM. Demetrius I Poliorcetes (306-283 BC). AV stater (18mm, 8.53 gm, 12h). NGC Choice XF, 5/5 - 2/5, ex-jewelry, scuffs. Lifetime issue of Tarsus, ca. 298-295 BC. Head of Athena right, hair in four tight corkscrew curls and falling loose over left shoulder, wearing triple-crested Corinthian helmet with long divergent crest ends pushed back on head, the bowl decorated with coiled serpent right / ∆HMHTPIOY / ΒΑ-ΣΙΛΕΩΣ, Nike standing facing, head left, wreath in outstretched right hand, stylis cradled in left arm; I in left field below wing, ANΦ monogram in right field below wing. Cf. Newell 35 (obverse die H, letter and monogram reversed). Apparently an unrecorded variety of the very rare series in the name of Demetrius.
