THRACIAN KINGDOM. Lysimachus (305-281 BC). AR tetradrachm (33mm, 16.92 gm, 12h). NGC Choice AU★ 4/5 - 4/5, Fine Style, die shift. Uncertain (Bithynian?) mint, ca. 260-250 BC. Diademed head of deified Alexander III right, with horn of Ammon; H below, dotted border / ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ / ΛΥΣΙΜΑΧΟΥ, Athena seated left, Nike in right hand crowning royal name, left arm resting on grounded shield, transverse spear beyond; ME monogram in left field, ΠA monogram in exergue. Thompson -. Müller -. Breathtaking portrait in high relief, further accentuated with areas of golden toning.
Same obverse as Marinescu, Cius, Issues V and VI, obverse B, pp.213-214, but here coupled with a different control monogram combination which is possibly unpublished. Marinescu ("The Lysimachi Coinage of Cius, Bithynia" in D. Boteva, ed., Ex nummis lux: Studies in Ancient Numismatics in Honor of Dimitar Draganov (Sofia, 2017)) noted a close association of these emissions to Cius, and suggested they are from an uncertain mint in Bithynia.
