The most iconic bronze coin of the Constantine Era, much has been written over the decades about the symbolism on the reverse. The most prevalent hypothesis being the three medallions on the banner representing the three remaining sons of Constantine the Great - Constantine II, Constantius II and Constans - since Crispus had been executed by the time this coin was minted, and the Christogram labarum piercing the serpent as a message of the triumph of God over Satan and the stability of the Christian emperor and his three sons leading the empire against all enemies.
