Charles III 8 Reales 1760 G-P AU55 NGC, Nueva Guatemala mint, KM27.1, Cal-295. Mintage: 42,347. An elusive issue in better technical states, this type represents the 2nd rarest date of this Charles III type and is much rarer than the scarce 1760 Ferdinand VI issue. The offering preserves a majority of its struck detail, the expanses displaying steel patination that cuts dramatically to the right to yield strong glints of original mint luster. We note that the Rudman example, certified in only XF40, as compared to the AU55 grade of this piece, sold for an all-in price of $1,880 (Heritage Auction #3030, January 2014, Lot 24413).
