Mexico
Philip V gold Cob Escudo 1714 Mo-J MS64 NGC, Mexico City mint, KM51.2, Fr-7c. 3.38gm. Beaming with radiant luster, the struck portions of the design apparent in full, crisp detail. The underside of the final two digits of the date are visible, and the style of the reverse cross and quadrilobe serve to confirm the year. While many examples of the 4 and 8 escudos denominations were recovered from the 1715 Plate Fleet shipwreck, relatively few 1 escudos were recovered, making this type one that is highly sought in top grades.
