Danzig. Johan II Casimir gold Ducat 1666/3-DL UNC Details (Filed Rims) PCGS, Danzig mint, Fr-24, cf. Gum-1915 (RR; overdate unlisted), CNG-319/I (same). Variety with tiny lion in shield between D-L. IOH • CAS D G • R • POL • & SUEC • M • D • L • RP •, crowned, armored bust of Johan Casimir right / MON • AUREA CIVITAT • GEDANENS • 1666, pair of lions flanking the arms of Danzig, tiny shield containing lion below, flanked by D-L. A very soundly struck example, admitting hardly any traces of bending in the flan and no evidence of flatness whatsoever. Interestingly, the date of 1663 is not recorded for this type, and we are also unaware of any other examples of this overdate coming up for auction in recent years. We note that the same private stamp appears behind the bust on this coin as on the following lot.
