Russia
Novgorod silver "Bar-Shaped" Grivna ND (c. 13th-14th Century) XF, cf. Petrov-Plate 8, 132, Spassky-pg. 65, Fig. 44. 202x14.5mm. 193.51gm. By all indications quite a rare Northern ingot, with Spassky indicating that the earlier of these bar-shaped grivnas were the longest and straightest, gradually being replaced by shorter, slightly curved pieces. This is the longest example we have been to locate coming to auction in recent years, with most specimens measuring around 130 to 140mm in length.
