The Pali inscription reads "Gentle mother, guard the prince born from thy body. Tis ' but the singular child of life, and even as life dares abandon its post, with the child it is as it was before. / Let the being incite feelings of mercy and love where it goes as here there are few. Look to all the living creatures in this world. It is thus."
