UNITED STATES: AV 5 dollars, 1844-D, PCGS graded VF details, Liberty Head type without motto, tooled. The Dahlonega Mint was a former branch of the United States Mint built during the Georgia Gold Rush to help the miners get their gold assayed and minted, without having to travel to the Philadelphia Mint. The mint operated from 1838 to 1861 when seized by the Confederate States Government. After the end of the Civil War, The United States Government decided against reopening the mint.
