KAWARDHA: AR medal, ND, 37mm, Coat of Arms of the Princely State of Kawardha // PALACE / KAWARDHA / INDIA, with silver suspender and clip, EF. Kawardha State was one of the princely states in the Central Provinces of India during the period of the British Raj. The Palace in Kawardha, Chhattisgarh is situated in the Maikal Ranges at an altitude of 941 meters above sea level. The palace spreads over eleven acres of land and is built with Italian marble and stone. The main gateway to the Kawardha Palace is known as the Haathi Darwaza (Elephant Gate). The structure marks the royal processions of the past that were headed by elephants. The splendid domed and filigreed durbar hall of Kawardha Palace is set with marble staircases and the graceful courtyards. The State Palace was converted into a hotel after Independence.
