GUATEMALA: Republic, AR peso, 1894, KM-224, 1882BF Peru sol (KM-196.12) counterstamped with 1894 Guatemala ½ real (KM-165) dies, AU on Choice EF host. There were so many foreign coins circulating in Guatemala by 1894 that it was decided to counterstamp them with official ½ real dies to give them legitimacy.
