AΔPIANON KAICAPA ΘЄCCAΛOI, laureate head right / (CTPA) OX NIK OMAXOY, Athena Itonia striding right, hurling spear held in her right hand, shield on her left arm. BCD Thessaly II 951.5 = Burrer Em. 1, Series 1, 65.1 corr. (A14/R35 – this coin; Є not E); RPC III 451. Green patina. Good Fine.
Ex BCD Collection (Triton XV, 3 January 2012), lot 951.5, purchased from A.H. Baldwin, December 1974 (£4). Ex Rev. Edgar Rogers Collection, with his ticket.
To this collector the Rogers ticket was worth much more than the coin and was always fondly contemplated; an imaginary link with a very different past when there were far fewer Thessalian bronzes around while scholars and collectors studying them had much more time at their disposal.
