Philip I. AD 244-249. AR Antoninianus (22mm, 4.28 g, 12h). Rome mint, 2nd officina. 11th emission, AD 249. Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / FIDES EXERCITVS, aquila; two signa to left, one signum to right. RIC IV 62; RSC 50. Attractive old cabinet toning, a couple of minor deposits. Choice EF. Strong portrait.

Ex Style Collection (Part 1, Classical Numismatic Group Keystone Auction 1, 20 November 2019), lot 46.

"Philip I comes with a surprising variety of portrait engraving quality. Most of his coins are nice but the portrait, even if of good style, is usually lifeless. Here, as on a select few, the portrait just seems to come to life in your hands." (From the consignor)
