Codrington discusses which king named Parakrama Bahu issued this coin and came to the conclusion it was Parakrama Bahu VI of Kotte. He held the Jaffna area for several years, and its style resembles the coins with legend 'setu' produced in that area (pp.77-8). , The metallic composition of this coin is uncertain, although XRF tests of other lion coins have shown they contain over 95% copper and a little tin.
