China, Xin Dynasty, Wang Mang (AD 7-23), AE cash (Biscuit Huoqyan), 13.60g, large size, huo quan in archaic Seal Script, rev. blank (Hartill 9.60), good fine, scarce.
These thick "biscuit" coins are found in a wide variety of weights far in excess of the normal Wang Mang Cash. They were originally considered funeral coins, but none have been found in tombs, so their purpose remains a mystery.
Estimate: £60 - £80
